Trading API: Get only the data YOU want
Coming Soon: The eBay Trading API will soon allow developers fine-grained control over the response data. By specifying the response data elements that should be returned, developers can request only the elements they are interested in. This flexibility enables applications to better manage the response payloads. The configurable output feature is very effective for "Get" APIs that return large volumes of data. This feature will be available to developers in late January or early February.

Bidding: Get the WHOLE story
Support for displaying proxy bids has been added to the eBay site. Says Evan Liang:
In short, buyers will be able to see the full bid history, including when our system automatically raised a buyer's bid to beat a subsequent bid.
The GetAllBidders API call returns the bid history for an item. This call currently does not directly return proxy bids placed on behalf of the buyer. However, the proxy bid values can be calculated using the high bid amount, the bid time and the bid increment values. For more information on this feature, see the eBay Announcement.

These have included new ways of searching for items, to downplay the flea market feel, as well as the first overhaul of Ebay's much-copied rating system.
