Unpaid Item Improvements
Feature Type:
Enhancement

Anticipated Launch Date:
March 2005

Developer Impact:
Unpaid Item (UPI) API Improvements primarily affect all Developers that currently utilize the UPI API call or are planning to integrate UPI features within their listing applications. The project affects the SetNotificationsPreference and GetUserDisputes API calls.

The SetNotificationPreferences API call change includes the ability for Developers to set UPI Notification event preferences on behalf of Sellers. The new event is called UserDisputeEvents.

The GetNotificationPreferences API call change includes the ability to retrieve UPI Notification event preferences on behalf of Sellers. The new event is called UserDisputeEvents.

The GetUserDisputes API call includes addition of a DisputeModifiedTime flag to the dispute returned by the call, plus enables the return of all dispute details modified within a particular timeframe.

Feature Description:
This project activates an eBay Platform Notification when a buyer responds to an Unpaid Item (UPI) filing. As a result, Sellers are proactively notified via their selling application when a bidder has responded to a Seller's UPI filing and dispute message. The notification is an XML message directed to a URL specified by the Developer on behalf of the Seller that has registered to receive UPI Notifications.

The API call includes a DisputeModifiedTime flag. This DisputeModifiedTime tag provides the time of the last change to the dispute. This is returned with Detail Level 0. Based on this timestamp information, a developer can retrieve the disputes that have been modified within a desired timeframe by using the GetDispute call. For example, a Seller can now request that all of their dispute details be returned for disputes that have been modified in the past 24 hours.

Feature Benefits:
Applications will no longer need to poll the API continuously to determine if a user has responded to a UPI filing. Since the UPI Notification now gets triggered whenever a Buyer responds to a UPI filing, Developers can reduce their API call volume and Sellers are notified of responses in a timelier manner.
