Targeted Transactional Messaging
Feature Type:

New Feature

Anticipated Launch Date:

September 2005

Developer Impact:

This feature impacts developers who wish to pass along key transaction messages from eBay to sellers and buyers.

Feature Description:

Currently, eBay provides generic information when sellers or buyers attempt to conduct an activity that they have been restricted from doing. For example, if a seller tries to list an item with a BIN and has less than 10 feedback, the error message returned to the application is... “- Item cannot be listed or modified, either because the title and/or description contains improper words, or some other reasons stated in the Message node of the response, if any.” With this project, targeted blocking and non-blocking messages will be passed to the users via the API, identifying a more specific reason why the listing failed. Blocking messages will be returned along with API blocking errors and non-blocking messages will be returned with regular API results.

Changes to the API include:
  • AddItem
  • VerifyAddItem
  • ReviseItem
  • AddToItemDescription
  • AddLiveAuctionItem
  • RelistItem
  • AddTemplate
  • AddItemFromTemplate
Please consult eBay API documentation for more details.

Feature Benefits:

This feature benefits eBay sellers using Third Party applications. Sellers will receive targeted eBay Trust and Safety messages, allowing them to better understand and react to actions taken on their items.
